lt's rare now to feel the and see the warmth and the glow of an open fire or to smell the deep sharp smell of the many different kinds of wood burning.
Or perhaps it might be pinecones.
But to be realistic, nowadays we have to find the wood which is very scarce in our area and very expensive. Thinking back it was messy, sometimes hard to light and you had to wait for that glow and the warmth.
We now have a Canara Gas Heater that brings you instant heat and looks like wood burning, so it makes you feel cosy and l am happy with it.
But recently on my long train trip to Gippsland to visit my cousin and her husband in their beautiful bushland home, their open fire drew us into a past life of memories. Exquisite!
Fire places not in use can look romantic, plain, colourful, trendy and very original.
Do you have a fire place not in use with the mantle shelf above?
Some people cover them over like we have for many years.
Ours is about to be uncovered. Maybe l will find some ideas in the following pictures.
