'MONROES PLACE CAFE' Healesville, Victoria, Australia

My hubby at I were spending 3 days in lovely Healesville
Strolling the streets looking for somewhere to have breakfast ( as we didn't want mcdonalds, or a bakerery breakfast, we wanted a real breakfast )
The cafe didn't really stand out from the road, we just happened to pass it and read " Monroes Place Cafe "
We went in and it was the " wow ' factor like going back 50 years

There were photos I had never seen before. This cafe had a bright and happy atmosphere, the breakfast was fresh, and hot, as was the coffee, the owner  was singing and the staff were great, and it wasn't expensive    What more could you want !!!

Hubby enjoying his  REAL BREAKFAST, no synthetic fast food This plate was large, and Vince had already eaten his toast when I took this photo
This breakfast reminded me of my father, as he loved his cooked breakfast

A RUG KNITTED in a PRISONER OF WAR CAMP

I love Human Interest Stories
Housed in a Museum in a Town Called Corryong, in Australia, is a large hand knitted  Rug, knitted by an Australian during his internment  as a prisoner of war

Jim O'Sullivan,tells his story
''As a young man, after joining the Air Force, during the 2nd World War,our Lancaster Plane was shot down over Hanover.
5 of our crew died, 3  parachuted down , becoming uninvited guests of Hitller
I was a Prisoner of War from ( 1939 -1945)

My Mother had taught me to knit as a small child and I was always interested in art
Upon my  capture, I was told by other prisoners, that all woolen jumpers would be confiscated and sent to the Russian Front
To save my nice white woolen jumper, I pulled it apart and rewound it into skeins ( in the toilet), taking 20 minutes

During my years in prison I taught over 40 other prisoners to knit, mainly socks to keep themselves warm
My plan to knit my big Aussie Rug took lots of wool, other prisoners somehow managing to find ? from plain and colour garmits. They all had to be boiled as they were full of louse.

I drew the map of Australia, and knitted it in plain stitch, with the ranges in purl
It also features the islands, close to Australia, and our coat of arms
To make the knitting needles I used handles from pots, etc., and sharpened points on one end, rubbing back and forth for many hours on the concrete floor

To the credit of the German Soldier,s my rug was not confiscated '

He himself of course is an"' AUSSIE TREASUSE "

A New Way With Imitation Grass !!!

I think this is such a unique way to advertise " Imitation Grass "

This Little Voltswagon tells the story
Hubby and I went for a drive on Sunday, to a garden Complex in Sheppartton (Australia ) called Emerald Bank

There was a great poem that told the Volltsies Story, but being such a hot day, the sun blocked half my photo out. I shall have to go back and revisit "Emerald Bank" to take that photo again That won't be hard -- there's also a Windmill Chocolate Shop, Antiques, Gift Shops, Cafes, etc, etc, etc

A HOFNER GUTTAR

YES, A GENUINE 1956  HOFNER GUITAR

JOHN LENNON played this model ( and year ) guitar in his band "THE BEATLES "

I love the original lined guitar case, feeling like very soft velvet, and in excellent condition

This Hofner guitar is No. 924
We think this guitar and case is a work of Art, and my husband is very proud to own it

A little bit of trivia !! Did you know this Guitar was sitting on top of rubbish, on a trailer, ready to go to the tip?
An old man in his 80's gave this treasured guitar  to his son, later he seen in on the rubbish pile and rescued it back again

He was telling our friend Neil about it, and asked if he wanted it
Neil said " No, but I know a friend of mine who would love it for his Music Room."
He made the right choice, my hubby was honoured to own such a classic guitar
With a little bit of T. L. C .it now stands proudly in the Music Room
.
